There weren’t that many dogs on the beach that day but Mr. N made a poodle friend and they chased each other around for a bit.
After cavorting on the beach (well the dogs did anyway), I wanted something sweet before our hike. The dogs waited patiently (or semi-patiently in Mr. N’s case) for us to make a quick trip to the chocolate cafe.
Then off to Ecola State Park (a lot of filming for Goonies took place here). There’s a five dollar entry fee. We took the Clatsop Loop Hike which starts at the Indian Beach Trailhead.
It’s three miles and normally would be very doable but we were already tired from walking on the beach so there was some huffing and puffing going uphill.
We passed some bunkers from World War II.
And made a detour to the viewpoint from which you can see the Tillamook Rock Lighthouse, nicknamed “Terribly Tilly” for the erratic weather conditions and dangerous commute for the workers. It’s inactive and an unofficial columbarium.
Mr. N sat on a ginormous old growth tree stump and pondered what it would be like to be so old.
He decided he prefers to be young and beautiful.

Fun place to hike. Love your big stick and that you keep it for yourself. Bailie and I always argue over stick possession.

It was a good hike. I especially liked the old growth trees interspersed in the woods.

Such pretty scenery – especially that old tree stump. Mr. N. that stick is as big as you!

He can barely drag it. It was so funny watching him try.

Hiking is the one activity that I don't have to wear Barley out beforehand–but if there are going to be steep inclines (especially ones that are rocky or muddy), we do a few loops on the easier terrain first to get her crazy out a little bit and make sure she's ready to listen so I don't end up sliding down the hills 🙂 Looks like that's a great park for a hike!

Ann has been having that problem with Sage. Mr. N likes to race down hills and Sage wants to catch up with him but Ann can't go that fast downhill with her knee. So Sage pulls like crazy.

I can imagine Sage wouldn't want Mr. N to beat her down the hills! Barley ends up getting many extra treats on downhill slopes 🙂

Love Mr.N with that massive stick!

Holy cow, that tree stump looks impressive! I've never seen one quite like it! It looks like you went for a wonderful beach walk & then hike ~ what a gorgeous, gorgeous backdrop!!

What a great day! We'd love to go hiking there and play on the beach, too. The perfect day!

Looks like one incredible day you had there Mr. N. That final photo is probably one of my favorites of you – definitely frameable.

What a beautiful hike! I love that you had to pre-exercise the dogs before hiking. I trust it wasn't them that were huffing and puffing their way up the hill. 🙂

I had to look at your bio to be sure, but I’ve definitely been to Canon Beach. We took a road trip from California to Oregon 2 summers ago. There was a heatwave inland, so we headed out to the coast so Mishu would be more comfortable. Love the Oregon coast!

OMG so jealous. That looks like a great beach to frolic on and a great hike. Stunning pictures and Mr N looks so cute. Love him with the big stick and that last shot especially.

You and Mr. N take the best hikes! I always love reading about them. Do you see Sage very much since they moved?

Oh we LOVE Cannon Beach! It’s one of our favorite places to go. We stopped by Moe’s Saturday and that stretch of beach was an absolute ZOO. So we moved down to Ft. Stevens. I haven’t been on the Clatsop hike though and it looks awesome. Great pics!
