Visiting Astoria (Oregon) with Dogs

Out of the Oregon Coastal towns I’ve been to, Astoria so far has been my favorite. We took Mr. N last year. I’ve been wanting to go back so when Sage’s human suggested going to the coast, I nominated Astoria which is the oldest settlement on the West Coast. There’s a trolley that you can take that does a history tour (they allow dogs… at least small ones).
I wanted to go to the Bowpicker for lunch but unfortunately they were closed. They are a fish and chips food boat and I always recommend them to people visiting.
He likes to think of himself as an ace navigator. Land ho!
Mr. N says would you like some fries with that?
We ended up eating lunch at the Fort George Brewery. The boyfriend likes their beer. Their patio is dog friendly. I put Mr. N up on the railing for a photo and the table next to us remarked that Mr. N was actually posing for the photo. He loves the camera.
We stopped by the Blue Scorcher Bakery & Cafe next door for dessert. I highly recommend their chocolate ginger cookies. Mr. N finds bakeries boring. He’s not a fan of grains. Give him meat!

Mr. N found this and thought about eating this giant can of salmon all by himself.
The dogs aren’t allowed in the Oregon Maritime Museum (at least I’m pretty sure they’re not, we didn’t try) so they posed by the anchor outside.
Mr. N thought about running away and joining the coast guard.
Or maybe becoming a pirate. I think he would look good in an eye patch.
There’s a glass studio behind the brewery so we took a quick peek at the wares. Lovely colors.
On our way out of Astoria, we visited the Goonies house. I have to admit I’ve actually never seen the movie but it’s on my list. It’s a private residence and there are signs saying not to go beyond a certain point. There were a steady stream of visitors when we went by.

You should come watch "The Goonies" with us in August at our local dog-friendly outdoor movie festival!
We take all the pets to Astoria every winter… your photos of the same places I have taken mine look very different. We have never been there when the trolley is running and we go for a festival at Fort George so no dogs.

In the picture of Mr. N by the fisherman statue, he has the same serious expression. BOL. Mr. N., you are a natural model!

Ok, so first I had to look up Hi-Yu parade, because I had no clue what it was. That's where I learned that the Hi Yu parade (and festival) is an event that supports West Seattle's service organizations, like the American Legion, Kiwanis, Rotary. I also learned that Hi-Yu comes from the Chinook word for "plenty."

And there must have been plenty for Leo to look at! And plenty of people to look at Leo.

My favorite pic? The one where the flag looks like Leo's crest!

What great pictures! Mr. N is definitely a natural. Barley thinks being a pirate sounds fun, too. She has lots of pirate toys because our favorite baseball team is the Pirates, so she plays with them while I listen to the games 🙂

Looks like a great trip! My hubs likes beer too! We are going to Bend later this year and will check out some of the breweries there. Will have to look up where Astoria is and see if we have time for a day trip.

    Love the new banner!

Ok Mr. N! I am getting really envious of all the places you get to see! But, hands down, you do know how to strike a pose! 🙂 Someday, you are going to have to teach the redneck girl the finer arts WOOF!

This looks like a fun place to visit. I found a dog friendly place in Colorado that I love…but now have to get Magical-Dawg there. 😛

I've never been to Oregon, but it looks like a great place to visit and live. It was fun to see Sage in these photos! I miss seeing photos of Mr. N and Sage together.
