FitDog Friday #35 – Random Tidbits

  1. Mr. N’s recall has improved quite a bit since I hid from him. He was running towards these two guys to say hello and I called him and he ran back to me. Also I called him in the middle of dog play and he came back as well (a little slower but still).
  2. Mr. N is taking super secret classes and if he graduates… he may find a purpose.
  3. Sage‘s human is on the mend and we’re hoping maybe next week, we can go for a walk together.
  4. I took Mr. N to watch a world cup match at a bar’s courtyard. I had to solemnly swear Mr. N would be good and not bark or be a nuisance. They used to allow dogs but changed their policy because the dogs were disruptive. He was good. The last ten minutes or so he started getting squirmy but he was quiet. He charmed the food cart people and the couple sitting behind us who said they were going to add Yorkies to their prospective dog list.
  5. The day before that, he got called a “vicious little creature” when he was minding his own business.
  6. I brushed another foxtail (weed with barbs) out of him today. Does anyone know how long it takes foxtails to burrow under the skin?
  7. I took him to the park where he tired out three other dogs and went for a walk before deciding maybe it was time to go home and curl up in the shade. Granted, two of those dogs were fat. Thin dogs have more energy. Or in Mr. N’s case, all the energy.

Wow! You guys have been busy. Foxtails are so scary… they can burrow in pretty quickly since that is what those awful one way barbs are meant to do but it depends on where they are trying to burrow. In feet, noses or eyes foxtails burrow in minutes! Walks during foxtail season are not relaxing for me since I just work diligently to keep my dogs far from them… they all get closer to me when I shout "foxtails!"

Mr. N, no way someone could call you a vicious little creature! That made me laugh! Can't wait to hear about your super secret class — therapy dog? something else? Happy FitDog Friday!

I can't wait to hear about the super secret classes, either! I just can't get over someone calling such a cute pup a vicious little creature! I love his expression in the World Cup picture–I can't tell if he's a fan of what's happening in the game or not.

I think he's just not a fan of the hat. He actually gets called vicious or various variations on that fairly often. He's reactive to other dogs on leash so he can be loud sometimes but it's almost always when he IS behaving.

I'm not surprised Mr. N wore out those other dogs! He certainly does sound like he has all the energy. 🙂
Glad to hear he is doing better with his recall, and that you might be able to walk with Sage again soon too.

Super secret class? Hmm, I wonder what it could be! 🙂 Also, glad to hear they let Mr. N watch the game at the bar! Maybe his good behavior will help other pups get in. 🙂

Sounds like a busy week. Foxtails are bad, bad, bad. Best to steer clear of them. We avoid them because of the harm they can do. I think they can start to burrow fairly quickly but I worry more about nose and feet.
