FitDog Friday #27 – Rust Belt Market

Between the cold weather, not being able to walk anywhere and Detroit not being particularly dog-friendly, Mr. N barely went anywhere during our trip to visit family besides walking around the neighborhood and for a hike. The exception being when we met up with How I Adopted Your Brother and her puppy Kelinn to go to the Rust Belt Market on Saturday. The Market is an indoor arts and crafts fair that is open on the weekends (and allows dogs!).

Portland is ridiculously dog-friendly in many ways (although the airport could really use an indoor bathroom area for dogs) and Mr. N being pint-sized means he gets to go almost everywhere that doesn’t sell food. I could tell he missed all the mental stimulation of being out and about when we came back from the market and he crashed.

Everyone wanted to say hello. Who wouldn’t want to say hello to this puppy face?

We walked around and bought some ties for the boyfriend and stopped by the juice bar.
I had a terrible time taking photos of the dogs together. They were either blurry because Kelinn was moving (puppy brain can only focus for so long) or the dogs refused to sit next to each other (Mr. N has very decided opinions on exuberant puppy behavior) or something. Kelinn was falling asleep towards the end too. It was a neat place to visit and we would have never found out about it without How I Adopted Your Brother

Where do you take your dogs for mental stimulation?

You thought I was kidding didn't you when I said that Detroit is NOT dog-friendly? And…our weather sucks……(at this time of year), I wasn't lying as you can see! Glad you found somewhere good to go!

Great post Mr. N. – mental stimulation is pretty key to a healthy pup. We like to take the dogs to the pet store…talk about challenges – wow! Thanks for joining the Hop and being part of the FitDog Friday Family.

That looks like a cool place and a great adventure. I walk down to our local shops for mental stimulation. Rocco loves to visit with all the people and we typically pass lots of dogs on the way too. There's even a pet store along the way. We stop by there even if there's nothing that we need to buy.

    Happy FitDog Friday!

Congratulations on your FitDog Friday award! I'm glad you found someplace you could take Mr. N when you were traveling, that market looked like fun!

That looks like fun, especially meeting up with another blogger- and what an adorable puppy! Because Rita is reactive and I never really know if she'll like/be afraid of certain men, there aren't too many places I take her, but she does come along with me every other week to the chiropractor. She LOVES my chiro guy, and she does pretty well with most of the other clients that come and go. But last week she barked at some poor guy. Soooo embarrassing. Not sure if i'll be taking her back again…. Ugh.

Just to add so people don't think I'm a total dummy, I asked the chiro if he wanted me to stop brining her since she barked. He said he loves it when she comes and he didn't want to be the one to make the call. So… I dunno. We'll see. It's good to get her out meeting people in a safe environment, but not cool when she barks at someone!

What a cool spot AND you can take your dogs in with you. Mental stimulation for you & your dog. that's it – I'm packing and moving to the states!! so hard to get your dog 'inside' anywhere around Australia. too many health & hygiene rules i think….

I guess I never really thought of it not being dog friendly here. We are always out doing things with our dogs, but shopping and stuff is not something we do often. 🙂 You should have come this week. We had lovely weather! The week you were here, it stunk!

My dogs’ favorite place is definitely either one of the two pet stores in the area. It’s nice to switch it up, different smells, different regular staff, different clientele. Plus the dogs know they get a dried rabbit or duck roll when we get home after so they behave as well as they possibly can, which is fun!

I am glad that Mr. N got to go out and enjoy the attractions. The Rust Belt market sounds like a fun place. My town isn’t very dog friendly, several people take their dog to Lowe’s for excitement in the winter.

We had some serious fit challenges in the past month. Even though we love winter and have no problem with cold weather, it was so cold that we couldn’t go anywhere other than potty for about month when all added up. Poor Cookie. Today is a terrible blizzard, but it’s warmer, so we’re out there braving the elements.
